Field of study: Clinical and genealogical analysis of patients with familial NMTC and sporadic NMTC, assessing the role of genetic factors in NMTC development and elaboration of recording tactics, screening program and clinical management.
The aim of the thesis: Clinical and genealogical analysis of patients with NMTC.
Objectives of the thesis: study of epidemiological aspects of morbidity in familial and sporadic NMTC in Republic of Moldova, analysis of NMTC frequency in the structure of multiple primary cancers; design and creation of an information system that includes database of cases of TC, PMC and family tree of families; determination of the characteristic histopathological features of familial non-medullary carcinoma of thyroid; immunohistochemical investigation of p53 and PTEN genes expression in familial non-medullary carcinoma of thyroid; evaluation of interdependance between adenoma and carcinoma of thyroid in the studied families.
Scientific novelty of the results. For the first time has been studied epidemiological aspects of non-medullary thyroid carcinoma in Moldova; it was established the nosologic entity of familial non-medullary thyroid carcinoma; it were described the features of clinic, instrumental and pathomorphological diagnostic tools; was selected the group of patients and their family members affected by this pathology.
The solved scientific problem consists of assessing the benefit of optimization the diagnosis of non-malignant thyroid tumors, NMTC, PMT in families with high oncological risk, due to use of diagnostic and screening phased program to ensure early detection and radical treatment.
Theoretical significance. Practical value of the work. The study made an important contribution in addition to knowledge about trends, epidemiological parameters and features of clinical manifestation of NMTC in Moldova. This work fits in the Strategic National Program for Combating Cancer in Moldova and in the scientific laboratory research strategy of the Scientific Surgery of head and neck surgery tumors laboratory of the Institute of Oncology. The results of work aimed at implementing and developing new diagnostic approaches in NMTC, offers concrete suggestions to streamline the early detection of NMTC, open opportunities for learning in the area of hereditary syndromes and argues the need to implement new methods of genetic diagnosis.
The results of the paper have been implemented in the Scientific laboratory Surgery of head and neck tumors.
