Topic: a detailed study from a contrastive-typological perspective of the phraseology antonyms in Romanian and English
Purpose and objectives: compiling an extensive study on the typology of phraseology antonyms in Romanian and English. The following objectives have been targeted: 1. to reveal the core theoretical issues of the phraseology antonymy; 2. to establish the specific features of the phraseology antonymy; 3. to classify the phraseology antonyms in Romanian and English; 4. to establish the most usual phraseology antonyms in Romanian and English; 5. to draft a structural typology of phraseology antonyms in the languages under study.
The scientific novelty and originality of the thesis – an important semantic category has been examined, namely the phraseology antonymy in Romanian and English; an abundant real material in both languages has been searched into, which allowed detailed structural-semantic classifications of the Romanian and English phraseology antonyms.
The important scientific problem solved in the investigated area consists in the identification of paradigmatic and syntagmatic features of the phraseology antonyms in Romanian and English. The scientific value of the research resides in its contribution to the development of phraseology - a relatively new branch of Romanian linguistics.
Methodology of the scientific research is the method of phraseology identification, descriptive method, contrastive-typological, differential-universal, etc.
The theoretical and practical value of the paper lie in the fact that the typology of the same-structure and different structure phraseology antonyms has been established for Romanian and English. Valuable findings have been acquired in the theme classification of the phraseology antonyms, of their correspondence with morphology words, etc.
Implementation of the scientific analysis. The analysis results may be used in teaching lexicology academic courses, phraseology, syntax and for compiling course books and dictionaries, in the process of translations.
