Summary

The present work is consecrated to studies the peculiarities of rearing and application of the entomophage Trichogramma spp. to control the cotton ball worm (Helicoverpa armigera Hb.) on tomatoes and sugar corn under the conditions of the Republic of Moldova.

As a result of the investigations carried out during the years 2003-2006 in territory of the Central zone of the Republic of Moldova, it was established that the eggs of the cotton ball worm in the agrocenosis of tomatoes, and of the sugar corn one are parasitized by the different species of the Trichogramma genus: T. evanescens W., T. pintoi Vog., T. leucania P&Ch., T. semblidis Aurn.

The predominant of T. evanescens W., up to 96% from the total quantity of species. În the agrocenosis of tomatoes was identified as T. evanescens (tomato). In the agrocenosis of the sugar corn – T. evanescens (maidis).

The ways of the efficient application of the Trichogramma spp. to control the cotton ball worm on tomatoes and sugar corn were established the following: application predominant species; rearing of the entomophage on the irradiated eggs of the Sitotroga cerealella Oliv. (developed in the laboratory for “Tehnology for production and application entomophages”) allowing to increase its biological indices; application of lot of Trichogramma spp. of different eggs ensuring a constant presence of the entomophage in the field; utilization the traps with the sexpheromone of the cotton ball worm allowing signaling the pest appearance; supervision after the dynamics of the oviposition by the pest during the whole vegetation period of crop development which allows to regulate the dates, rates and frequencies of the Trichogramma spp. releasing.

In the time of accomplishing the protection measures of crops with the Trichogramma spp., these ways of treatment will allow to increase and stabilize the parasite efficacy in the field.
