Summary

The doctoral thesis aims at studying the phenomen of variability, whose mechanismes find themselves in the structure of the language itself. Variability represents an intrinsic quality of the way of existence and function of the language, manifesting itself both, in the objective plan of language, as well as in the subjective plan of speech.

The paper deals preponderantly with the diaphasic (individual) variability, which is circumscribed to stylistics and semiotics. The thesis also highlights the importance and necessity of such studies. Individual variability is conditioned by the cognitive-affective particularities of the creating artist in the hypostasis of the transmitter, being modeled, simultaneously by characteristics specific for the national language. The phenomenon of individual variability deals predominantly with meaning and is presented as a result of metasemy. The individual variability within some poetic paradigms, nominal groups/verbal groups taken from the works of remarkable representatives of Romanian literature: M. Eminescu, N. Stănescu; Şt. Aug. Doinaş is being examined. The analysed instances explain the dynamics of individual meanings in the case of such poetic symbols as: icon, intwisted virtue etc. (M. Eminescu); at the edge of an hour, for the eternity of an hour, the hours turned green like emeralds etc. (N. Stănescu); violet-blue deer, building, lily, a heretical pope etc. (Şt. Aug. Doinaş).

In this thesis the efficiency of applying the method of semic analysis while interpreting a literary text is being tested, a method which has not been turned to interpreting account in national linguistics till present, but which turns to be adequate, assuring the penetration in to the structure of depth of the creators aesthetic meaning. Language, in essence, owes its expressiveness, plasticity, suppleness and the capacity to suggest to variability itself.
