Summary

The thesis consisted of 5 chapters: introduction, personal investigations, discussion, conclusions and recommendations, a 253 source bibliography, 201 pages of basic text, 13 annexes, 40 data tables, 43 figures (including diagrams), color pictures, one monograph, and one patent. The results were published in 36 scientific works.

The domain of study. 16.00.03 Microbiology, virology, epizootology, micology and veterinary immunology. The aim of the work. An investigation into the appearance, clinical evolution, diagnosis, eradication measures and prophylaxis of infectious bursal disease.

The objectives were: Investigation of epizootological particularity and variations of clinical symptoms, gross lesions and histological modifications in the bursa of Fabricius tissues from infected and vaccinated chickens; study the actions of immunocorrectors and the immunological efficacity of diferrent strains used in vaccines; elaboration and implementation of the complex of measures for prophylaxis and eradication.

Theoretical signification. A complex series of investigations were made regarding the evolution, specific prophylaxis, and eradication of infectious bursal disease.

Scientific innovation. New data was obtained concerning the epizootological particularity of infectious bursal disease and the dependence between the age of affected chickens and the development of clinical symptoms. The morphological lesions and histological modifications in bursal tissue from infected and vaccinated birds was documented. Different strains of virus were compared as to efficacy for vaccine development. Also, the efficacy of immunocorrectors such as a hidroalcoolic solution of propolis and biomass from streptomycetes was investifated as to improving the efficacy of vaccines.

The practical importance of the work is connected with the elaboration of practical recommendations regarding infectious bursal disease control on poultry farms in The Republic of Moldova, new vaccination programs, and more efficacious vaccine strains and techniques.

The obtained results were implemented on poultry farms in The Republic of Moldova and in the didactic processes used by faculty in Veterinary Medicine at ASUM.
