Research area and objectives of investigation. Taking into consideration the complex dimension of the metaphoric composition phenomenon, the major goal follows a double projection: 1. Establishment of the pertinent characteristics of compounds and metaphoric analytisms and their linguistic functioning responsible for the syntaxes and semantics of the respective units. 2. Investigation of the meaning transfer process and of the lexical nomination at the compounds and analytisms level in modern Italian language.
The scientific innovative character of the thesis. This investigation is a first fundamental scientific tentative to highlight the complex, multidimensional aspect of composition of words with metaphoric value in the modern Italian language. The in depth approach towards the issue brings us to the identification of complex mechanisms in the metaphorization process of the lexical compound units. It also shows their possible realization in the language and the dissemination ways of the most productive composition models.
The theoretical significance. This research is a topical and modern source of documentation for interested people working in philological institutions and researchers involved in different scientific investigations of the vocabulary of the modern Italian language.
The application value of the research. The investigation contains pertinent data for the development of special theoretical courses for students of the philological faculties and offers grounds for subsequent research of the compounds and analytisms with metaphoric value from the perspective of the translation theory and practice, the functional stylistics and glotodidactics.
Implementation of the scientific results. The outcomes of this research have been implemented during teaching activities in the higher education institutions, in particular in teaching lexicological and stylistics courses, as well as in courses dedicated to specialized translation (the license module) and translation in relation with specialized vocabulary (module for master degree). This work may act as a theoretical source for lexicological investigations, whereas data collected for the purpose of this research may be compiled into a special dictionary of compounds and metaphoric analytisms.
