Field of study: ecology. Scope: scientific argumentation of premises the application of ecobioindication in the RM and elaborated criteria for environmental assessment through licheno-, brio-, mico-, fico- and malacoindication. Objectives: premises and application of ecobioindication method in the RM; elaboration of evaluation criteria for air quality in urban and forest ecosystems; verification of the Program EMEP, Index of Atmospheric Purity (IAP) and Poleotoleration Index (PI) functionality in the conditions of the RM; estimation of the cumulating features of heavy metals in litter, mosses, lichens and molluscs according to the source of pollution, altitude and cardinal direction; monitoring morpho-anatomical changes, applied in the lichens transplants within Chisinau, and their metals cumulative capacities.
Novelty and scientific originality. 3 criteria were developed for assessing the air quality depending on specific diversity, abundance and toxitoleration towards pollutants. Features regarding pollutants accumulation in the body of biota and abiotic components were established. The lichens and mosses ecobioindicator species register was developed. Original information was obtained regarding the state of forest, aquatic and urban ecosystems in terms of local and transboundary pollution; the ecobioindicator species degree of damage was established depending on their particular toxitoleration and cumulative properties, the quantity and quality of pollutants. As genuine ecobioinidcation species for performing the environmental monitoring were proposed 75 species, out of which: lichens - 40, mosses - 30, molluscs - 3, fungi -2.
Theoretical significance. The theory of ecobioindication was founded as a direction within the environmental quality studies in the Republic of Moldova. Ecobioindication principles have been scientifically reasoned for forest, aquatic and urban ecosystems based on abiotic and biotic factors interdependence and performed studies on: ecobioinidicators biologic diversity, abundance, degree of tolerance and cumulative features.
Application value. Elaborated methodology and criteria were aplicated in
the environmental assessing (SO2, heavy metal and organic pollution) from 62
forest, 9 aquatic ecosystems and 15 urban stations in the Chisinau city.
