The structure of the thesis: introduction, four chapters, conclusions and recommendations, annotations in Romanian, English and Russian, bibliography contains 496 sources, 149 pages of main text, with 28 pages of annexes. The achieved results have been published in 6 scientific works.
Area of research: refers to the Romanian history and aims to trace the evolution of the Bessarabian Orthodox Church between 1882 and 1918.
The objectives of the thesis: presentation of the churchly framework in Bessarabia at the end of the 19th century – the beginning of the 20th century in the context of historic research; examination of the churchly administration in the eparchy of Chisinau and Hotin during 1882–1918; analyzing the problems addressed during the eparchial congresses on churchly administration in Bessarabia; researching the monks’ life and the churches’ and monasteries’ role in the process of maintaining and preserving the national specifics of Romanians in Bessarabia; exposition of didactic and missionary activity of the Bessarabian clergy, its role in fighting sects; revealing the clergy’s contribution to the national movement in Bassarabia at the beginning of the 20th century.
The novelty and scientific originality: the thesis elucidates in a complex manner the churchly life in Bessarabia, including essential components – administration, clergy and parishioners. The thesis launches into scientific discussion materials, information and data related to the activity of the church and clergy which led to an increase of its role in the missionary activity, in the eparchial administrative bodies, in the national movement at the beginning of the 20th century.
Theoretical significance: the thesis argues in a scientific manner for the results and the conclusions reached while researching the churchly life in Bessarabia between 1882 and 1918.
The applied value of the thesis: Both, the thesis and the published studies can be used for elaboration of certain synthesis papers, of university courses on the history of national culture with the departments of history and of religion – theology. The materials presented in the thesis may be useful for the elaboration of optional-elective courses, with a narrower focus dedicated to the history of national and world church. The results obtained during the research are used during the history lessons held at the theoretical lyceum “N. Iorga” in Chisinau. The value of this research is increased in the context of the current public debates initiated by the church regarding the study of religion in schools in the Republic of Moldova.
