Purpose of thesis: to establish a comprehensive system of knowledge on biology,
ecology and ethology of common newt in the Central Forest ecosystems, to assess intrapopulation
to perpetuate specific, ecological status and the development of effective methods of
conservation. To achieve this goal, the following objectives were outlined: to assess the
structure, spatial distribution, seasonal dynamics and population number, the specificity of the
annual reproductive cycle based on abiotic and biotic factors of the habitats, behaviour and
reproductive success, ecological status common newt populations in the ecosystems of Central
Forest conservation and development measures.
Theoretical significance. For the first time there was accomplished a comprehensive and
fundamental study of biology, ecology and ethology of the common newt in natural ecosystems
of the country to establish specific mechanisms to perpetuate the species intra-population
strongly fluctuating environmental conditions. The results contribute to strengthening the
concept of specificity of the common newt population reproduction strategy in different
environmental conditions of ecosystems. Data regarding the nuptial behaviour of the common
newt under natural conditions are mainly new on the local and regional levels and extend the
essential concept of systems of courtship arsenal courting pictures of the genus Triturus.
Applied value of the thesis. The results of scientific investigations and methodological
support are important in achieving sustainable monitoring and restoration of common
salamander population in the ecosystems of the country. Diagnostic tables of embryonic and
larval stages under natural conditions, developed for the first time, are used by batracologists,
ecologists, hydrobiologists and other scholars in the field of applied research hydrobiontes on
natural ecosystems. Developed practical recommendations will be used in the Natural
Reservation "Codrii" by specialists to improve the environmental status of the common newt
population. Results of research are used in teaching in university, including theoretical courses
and practical teaching of the Vertebrate Zoology, Moldova Fauna, and General Biology,
Organic Ethology, fundamentals of applied Herpetology, eco-evolutionary Ethology.
