Thesis of PhD habilitate in biology. Chişinău, 2011, consists of introduction, 6 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography: 247 sources, 198 pages (without references), 73 figures and 10 tables. The results have been published in 31 scientific papers including two monographs.
Field of study: 03.00.09 – Entomology.
Purpose of the thesis is the highlighting the current state and the taxonomic revision of the studied calcidoids from the Republic of Moldova (Chalcididae, Leucospidae, Perilampidae, Eucharitidae, Pteromalidae and Tetracampidae). In order to attain this aim, the following objectives have been established: identifying the specific composition, elaboration of annotated calcidoid list, their geographic distribution and biology, studying the trophic connections between calcidoid species and phytophagous insects at the plant-pest-parasitoid level, evaluation of the parasitic degree and the role of calcidoids in the number reduction of some pest insects in natural and antrophic ecosystems, establishing the biogeographical affinities.
Scientific originality of the work. For the first time an ample study of calcidoids from the families: Chalcididae, Leucospidae, Perilampidae, Eucharitidae, Pteromalidae and Tetracampidae on the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova have been accomplished. As a result of the performed researches there have been collected and identified 302 species, which belong to 122 genera, among them 2 genera and 4 species are new for science, while 12 genera and 89 species are new for the fauna of Republic of Moldova.
There have been established 4 new trophic relations for the science: 1). Terellia ruficauda F. (Diptera, Tephritidae) is host for 3 species of pteromalids: (Pseudocatalaccus nitescens Walk., Pteromalus decipiens Graham, Systasis encyrtoides Walk.), obtained from the inflorescences of Centaurea jacea; 2). Cynips quercusfolii L. (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae) is host for Mesopolobus morys Walk. (Chalcidoidea, Pteromalidae); 3). the new genus Artemisus g. n. obtained from Mordellistena sp. (Mordillidae) that develops in stems of Artemisia annua, as well as the relation between the parasitoid and the host is new for the science; 4). Neuroterus querqusbaccarum L. (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae) is registered as new host for 6 species of calcidoids: Mesopolobus fasciiventris Westw. (Pteromalidae), Ormyrus diffinis Fonsc. (Ormyridae), Eudecatoma biguttata Swed. (Eurytomidae), Eupelmus fulvipes Först. (Eupelmidae) Tetrastichus sp. (Eulophidae), Torymus flavipes Walk. (Torymidae).
Theoretical significance. The research results have a significant contribution to the study of calcidoids from the Republic of Moldova. Data about the place and the role of each species in biocoenosis, represents the basis of the animal kingdom Cadastre and contributes to solve issues related to the whole ecological monitoring.
The practical value. The main results of the thesis are part of the fundamental and applied research topic of the Institute of Zoology of A.S.M. The research results will help to improve the theoretical and empirical heritage concening the specific composition, fauna diversity, trophic spectrum and spacial distribution of calcidoids from the biogeographical interference zone.
Implementation of the scientific results. The obtained results are used in the elaboration of the animal kingdom Cadastre of the Republic of Moldova. Information about parasitoids complexes of pests is used in special classes of the Tiraspol State University, at the Specialty ”Plant Protection” and in elaboration of the control measures in forest nurseries and greenhouses.
