Summary

The thesis structure includes: foreword, 3 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography with 179 titles, 5 annexes, 141 pages of body text, 66 graphics, 27 tables. The results are published in 21 scientific papers.

Key words of the research are: graphic representations, learning effectiveness, mathematical skills, graphical constructions, graphic organizers.

Study area refers to the training theory and methodology of instruction in secundary classes. Research aims: theoretical and methodological foundation and experimental validation of a model of efficient teaching and learning of mathematics and developing mathematical competence to middle school students using graphic representations.

Objectives of the paper are: presentation of the degree of development of research problem in mathematics theory and practice, highlighting and confronting scientific meanings of the concept of graphical representation; theoretical foundations and develop a structural model of graphics used in the secondary mathematics; experimental verification of the efficacity of the model.

Scientific novelty and originality of results concern: the definition of graphical representation; updating theoretical concepts related to the concept of graphic representation; use the graphics in teaching, review and systematization of knowledge, comprehension of a problem, solving mathematical problems; developing a operational model for the development of mathematical skills to middle school students by using representations.

The problem is solved scientific and methodological basis for theoretical use graphics in curricular activities for improving math learning and skills training to middle school students.

Theoretical significance of the thesis consists of: analyzing and systematizing epistemological and methodological parts on the role of graphics in mathematical skills training to secondary school pupils, the development model integrating structured graphics in mathematics education; addresing the concept of graphic representation of motivational perspective.

Practical value of the thesis is: to determine the role, content and graphics place in mathematics education act; the posibility of optimizing the process of developing mathemetical sckills to middle school students, using the structural model for integrate graphics into the educational act.

Implementation of scientific results was achieved in pre-university education in Romania and higher education in Moldova.
