Summary

The present thesis tackles the problem of violence against women and specifies solutions to solve it. This complex phenomenon has been under intensive discussion since the last decade of the 20th century. The violence itself includes all elements and causes that differentiate it, without diminishing its importance, from all the other problems that our country faces nowadays, involving potential danger and unpredictable consequences to society.

As an important element of social equity, one of the fundamental human rights is the right to freedom that presupposes elimination of all forms of violence, whose consequences are seen in the dangerous destabilization of social harmony and political system, in economic recession as well as moral degradation that affects mental and physical health. Taking all this into consideration, the goal of this scientific research is:

- to address the society, namely governmental authority, jurisdictional bodies so that they recognize the phenomenon of gender-based violence and its origin within both the family and community;

- to demonstrate the necessity of government intervention to take legislative, social and economic measures to reduce and stop the wave of violence against women.

The economic strategies designed to get over the economic decline and increase the living standards are meant to be of not less importance for violence eradication.

As the thesis mentions, it is not only incomes increase that can diminish the violence against women in our society. We live in an environment of no culture and ignorance where a great majority of population considers violent relations among people appropriate, and, in such a way, justifies violence against women. The evolution of our society didn׳ t allow women to achieve the necessary level of rights and freedoms awareness. Taking all this into account, it is necessary to promote partnership values and respect, tolerance and nonviolence, to educate the new generation in the spirit of equality between genders.

The results of the present scientific research and the proposal made in it could be significant both for enlarging the topic of the thesis and generating new solutions regarding legal assistance in protecting women against indoor and outdoor violence.
