Summary

Presented in 265 pages, and 142 pages of basic text, the thesis contains: the introduction, three chapters, conclusions and recommendations, the bibliography containing 220 sources, album of works of monumental painting includes 158 illustrations and the biographical list of 52 artists. The results have been published in 12 scientific journals.

The research area: 651.01. History and Theory of Art.

The aim of this work is dedicated to the study of the monumental painting evolution in the areas of Bessarabia, the Moldavian SSR, the identification its peculiarities and the introduction in scientific and artistic use of the most valuable works of art.

The objectives: the identification of social and artistic environment which influenced of the developmental dynamics of the Moldavian monumental painting for each investigated period; recognition of the artists' contribution into the creation of monumental painting (fresco, alsekko, sgraffito, mosaic, stained glass); evaluation of the works of monumental painting in terms of artistic, stylistic, topographical, technological and functional approach; the composition of the photo-album containing the works on monumental painting on the basis of writing sources, arhival data and research made on the historical realm of Bessarabia and the Moldavian SSR; review of the anterior period (medieval) and ulterior (post-sovietic) for the integration of the research area into the historical and artistic context.

Scientific novelty and originality: The dissertation is the first deep study of the research area in the period of Bessarabia and the Moldavian SSR, contains previously unknown information and offers a new vision of the concept of the artistic image of the most valuable works, their analysis in terms of technological, typological, topographical, stylistic and functional approach. For the first time, the album of works of monumental painting is proposed.

Important scientific issue addressed resides in the determination of the place of monumental painting in the national art history and culture; in the valorification of the works of monumental painting and in the introduction in scientific and artistic use of the artists' contribution into the creation of monumental painting.

The introduction of scientific achievements.

The results of the work can be used by art professionals, teachers and students of art schools, as well as experts in the field of tourism and public interested in the national art.
