This thesis for the Doctor’s degree is devoted to the study of phraseological units which have in their structure lexical, semantical, grammatical archaisms etc. (this research includes 1600 of phraseological combinations).
It is a well-known fact that the majority of Romanian phraseological units contain in themselves some units from active vocabulary. Being a considerable layer in the history of a language, they preserve some forms and meanings which weren’t maintained in actual language, these phraseological units, thus, present themselves as evidences in the process of development and chasing of Romanian language.
Such maintaining of old forms and meanings in phraseological structure is favoured not only by formal particularities of phraseological unit (stable character, fixed word order of constituing elements etc.), but also of those semantical forms (phraseologically integral meaning).
Thus, the archaisms which make part from phraseological units provide idiomatic character of expressions, becoming those differentiated characteristics of lingual units with the help of which we can delimitate those stable joinings from free ones.
Being some „exoticisms” isolated from phonetical, lexical, grammatical system of actual language, these archaisms present themselves as some nucleuses which „attract” some other elements, consolidating phraseological structure.
As they have old lexical elements, some old flexions, vanished meanings etc. in their structure, a lot of such archaically phraseological units are interpreted as units which are included in modern phraseological system.
Archaisms, which are included in phraseological structure, contribute in accumulation of
their expressivity: or „incorrectidness” of their structure, as well as placing them out of actual
standards, is one of the most characteristical features of these phraseological units.
