Summary

The object of this research is the synthesis of democracy and associative sector. Democracy is perceived as balanced relation between state – market economy – civil society, in that way determining the complex part of the research. The associative sector is treated as the economic foundation of a democratic society.

The objective of the research has been pointed on the transition from only political perception of democracy to the economical - political perception; research of the interdependence “democracy-market” through critical analysis of alternative approaches; seeking for the political economic school that would be focused on economic practices with a democratic character; analysis of the associative sector in the light of its nature and evolution; highlight the problems of democracy in political, civil and economic environment of the Republic of Moldova; finding development problems and directions of the national associative sector.

Methodological approach was founded on the utilization of inter-disciplinary methods in interpreting democracy from different points of view: economic, political and civil; methods of formal and dialectical logics with the respective toolkits: scientific abstractions, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, analogy, researching from the simple to complex, from history to logic, from quantity modifications to quality modifications; an important role in the research was played by the procedure of comparison.

The innovative character of this thesis consists in a complex and systemic approach of democracy that allowed for the economic-political definition of democracy; identification of the democratic school in the political economy – “social economy”, considered the theoretical source of associative practices; specification of the mixed content of social enterprises and specific institutional forms of social enterprises (cooperatives, associations and mutual societies); proving the role of the associative sector in the economical environment through the analysis of alternative theoretical approaches; analysis of the role of the associative sector in developed countries and highlighting problems and tendencies of its development; studying the coherence of assessments, made by international organizations, on the degree of political, civic and economic democracy in the Republic of Moldova through the analysis of legal, executive, judiciary and mass-media powers in the republic; highlighting formation tendencies of the civil society in the republic and delimitation of the improvement directions of the local legal framework in relation to the associative sector.

Conclusions and recommendations resulting from the analysis of the associative sector could be partially used for the improvement of the Strategy of economic growth and reduction o poverty, as well as for the Agriculture and Food Industry Development Strategy in the Republic of Moldova.
