Summary

The paper is dedicated to a problem that is understudied in politica land media ± related literature ± that of the system of relation between public interest and the media during the transitional period in the Republic of Moldova.

The Introduction stresses the importance of the paper, its goals and objectives, the theoretical fundament, study methods and procedures used in this paper.

The fast chapter presents a conceptual approach of the notion "political interest", formulates the particular criteria of its appearance, definition and development, its manifestation and materialization its relation to political relations, and in this context with the media during the transitional period. This paper analyses the process of interference during the political and media fields, process in which the media is taking a increasingly important role.

The second chapter of the paper is focused on the involvement of the media in political interests on different levels ± state and national, group interest, individual and public interest. The study considers the behavioral characteristics of the media in the process of conflict of interest in political and media fields. Moreover, the author emphasizes on the role the media plays in the Republic of Moldova, in confrontations of ideas and concepts concerning the evolution of the society. Based on some applied studies enclosed in the Annex, the author studies the role of the media in the process of integration of the society, of unifying individual and group interest in the media field in order to reach national interest and objectives. The role of the media as an autonomous political agent (actor) is investigated as well.

The third chapter of the paper discloses the relations between political interest and the media based on the tendencies to control the media and subordinate it to the interest of the power, tendencies that exist in a totalitarian society. The paper studies the problem of social responsibility of media workers in a free and democratic society and the methods of control of the media by the power in transitional societies. A special section of this chapter is dedicated to the role of television in projecting political interest, creating political realities and leaders, and promoting their image.

The Conclusion of the paper is dealing with determining the basic principles of the relations between political interest and the media, the way these influence each other, and the affirmation of a increasingly important role of both written and electronic media in Moldovan political life, insistently evolving to a new role ± that of an autonomous political agent.
