In this work the most significant and vivid phenomena of the Moldovan religious music of the end of the XIXth - XXth centuries are analyzed on the basis of choral compositions and also the aspects of their performance are discussed. This research work discloses the sacred music composers' contribution to the development of the Moldovan musical choral art, performing practice and culture. The scientific work dwells upon the influence of the Byzantine, Moldovan, Russian, West-European and other countries' cultures on the formation of the Moldovan church singing and on composers' work of the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXIth centuries.
The main goal of the work is to research the musical religious genres the Moldovan choral culture (musical of as well as of divine service); to determine interconnection of the musical works to the traditional genre samples of the cult music; to characterize the compositional peculiarities of musical works from interpretational point of view.
The aspect of defining the place and significance of religious choral music in the general culture of the country, the reconstruction of a wide panorama of religious choral music from the end of the XIXth century till the year 2003 has not been specially studied before. In the work for the first time about 20 religious works by the contemporary Moldovan composers are analyzed among analyzed work there are mostly large - scala genres of choral music - the Hymns of the Liturgy, the Night service, the Vespers, the Matins, the Stabat Mater, the Requiem, the Spiritual Oratorio and Concert as well as choral miniatures which are the works by V.Ciolac, Gh.Ciobanu, D.Kitsenko, S.Buzila, T.Zgureanu, Z.Tkaci, N.Ciolac. The examples of the religious genres of G.Musicescu,M.Berezovschi whose works were at the beginning of the national church music are studied in this work from the new point of view - which is the performing one.
