Summary

Field of study: 313.02 – Microbiology, Medical Virology.

Research goal: assessing the in vitro response of the cultures of pathogenic and opportunistic fungus to action of new chemical and biological remedies

Objectives: highlighting the antifungal action of some new chemical compounds, synthesized by researchers from the Republic of Moldova; evaluation of antifungal activity of some vegetal and cyanobacterial extracts; elucidation of antifungal activity of extracts from Spirulina biomass, grown under biotechnological conditions of metal accumulation; setting possible mechanisms of action of new chemical compounds and extracts from indigenous sources against pathogenic fungi.

Scientific novelty of research. For the first time, there was identified antifungal activity of new coordination compounds containing thiosemicarbazone towards Candida albicans; there have been carried out complex researches of action of cyanobacterial extracts from standard biomass and that obtained under biotechnological conditions of metal accumulation against fungi; there was demonstrated the action of new substances on the integrity of cell membranes and redox status of fungal cells.

Important scientific problem solved in the present work consists in elucidation of in vitro antifungal activity of remedies of biological and chemical origin against some causative agents of mycoses. This led to highlighting the effects produced against pathogens, which allowed the establishment of several mechanisms of their action.

Theoretical value. There have been obtained new data, which allow expanding the range of perspective substances for the discovery of new antifungal drugs; there were outlined some of the mechanisms of action of new substances against studied fungi strains, based on diminishing the ability of antioxidant protection and cell membrane damage.

Practical value. It was proposed a new chemical substance as product with antifungal properties towards Candida albicans; it has been argued a new path of research directed towards the detection of new substances with antifungal properties, namely obtaining the cyanobacterial biomass with metal-containing extracts from this type of biomass.

Implementation of scientific results. Results of the study have been implemented at the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "N. Testemitanu" as teaching material for university training.
