Summary

The thesis includes: introduction, four chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography consisting of 194 titles, 3 annexes, 110 pages of basic text, 118 figures, 6 tables. The results of the research have been published in 15 scientific papers.

Field of study: Botany. The purpose of the thesis is: to determine the taxonomic composition, the bioecological and chorological peculiarities of the species of the subfamily Rosoideae in the flora of Bessarabia and to determine the rare taxa.

The objectives of the thesis: critical rewiew of Rosoideae collections from the existing Herbaria; field research and collection of species of the subfamily Rosoideae from geobotanical districts of the territory; comparative and morphological research, in office conditions, and determination of taxonomic affiliation of plants collected in the field; elaboration of floristic characterizations of Rosoideae; preparation of keys to identification the highlighted species; study of biological, phytogeographical and chorological characteristics of taxa; determination of rare species of Rosoideae and assessment of their conservation status; detailed description of new and endangered taxa for the studied flora; obtainment of scientific data to develop recommendations for the conservation of endangered taxa.

Scientific novelty and originality: the taxonomic composition of the subfamily Rosoideae, in the flora of Bessarabia, which includes 63 species, belonging to 10 genera, has been determined; 5 new species, for the flora of the territory have been identified and described; the List of Rare Plant Species of Rosoideae in the flora of Bessarabia has been highlighted and the categorization of these species has been performed; species distribution maps have been prepared; a list of rare taxa, to be taken under state protection, has been proposed; the establishment of a protected area with steppe vegetation has been proposed.

The important scientific problem that has been solved consists in the specification of the taxonomic composition and the ecological-chorological features of taxa of the subfamily Rosoideae; the list of rare species of Rosoideae has been made and the conservation status has been assigned to each species; three species of Rosoideae have been included in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova, 3rd edition.

Theoretical significance. The knowledge on the specific diversity of the family Rosaceae will help identify its role in the analysis of the local flora and the results of this research will serve as scientific basis for the development of strategies for the conservation of the plant gene pool and the expansion of protected natural areas.

Practical significance. The results presented in the thesis will be used as reference support in projects on rare taxa, restoration of natural ecosystems and conservation of regional biodiversity as a whole.

Implementation of scientific results: the basic part of the material of the thesis will be used in the elaboration of the monograph “Flora of Bessarabia” vol. III; the chorological data and the sozological categories of rare taxa may be implemented in the elaboration of the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova, 4th edition, and for publishing other books in the respective field. The results of the investigations of the habitat will stay at the basis of the expansion of protected natural areas.
