Field of study: Romanian Literature
The aim of the thesis: clarifying “Eminescu’s Moment” in the Romanian literary canon, and Eminescu’s impact on the evolution of the Romanian literary canon.
Objectives of the research are the following: analyzing the “intra-poetic” relationships between Eminescu and other Romanian writers; describing the methods to rewrite Eminescu’s work; emphasizing the inclusive character of “eminescianism”.
Scientific novelty consists in applying Harold Bloom's canonical/revisionist theory in researching the “eminescianism” in the Romanian literature to determine Eminescu’s impact on the national aesthetic canon, and following its evolution. By correlating Bloom's revisionist theory (“anxiety of influence”) with the theory of rewriting, the thesis indicates various types of “creative revisionism” in relation to the model used by other contemporary writers (with traditional, modern and postmodern poets – Gr. Vieru, Nikita Stanescu, Victor Teleucă, Leonida Lari, Mircea Cărtărescu), that reflect Eminescu's poetic continuity in other forms and by other means. The main scientific problem addressed in this field consists in the development of a conceptual framework and methodological clarification of the “intra-poetic” relationships in the Romanian literary canon. This reveals Eminescu’s impact by arguing the canonical continuity and the “revisionist deviations” realized by the great post-Eminescu poets.
The theoretical and applied significance of the work lies in highlighting the value of Bloom's canonical/revisionist theory, along with the concept of rewriting, to elucidate Eminescu’s impact on the concept of poetic continuity/discontinuity in the Romanian literature. The proposed investigation opens new prospects to research similar phenomens (e.g. bacovianism, blagianism, stănescianism etc.), but also to analyz the “intra-poetic” relationships between the great authors in the national canon.
Implementation of scientific results. The thesis results were implemented within the project „Contemporary Literature: Continuity, Paradigm Mutations, Experiment and Innovation” and, also, within scientific communications presented within international and national colloquies/conferences, in teaching university courses in nineteenth century Romanian literature, contemporary literature, comparative literature, as well as in developing undergraduate and master's theses.
