Summary

Thesis structure. This thesis includes introduction, three chapters, conclusions and recommendations, as well as bibliography with 178 sources. It has 150 pages, includes 5 tables, 37 diagrams, and 42 annexes. The study results are published in ten academic journals.

The thesis studies theoretical and methodological aspects of team leadership in different business areas.

Key goals of the scholarly work is to research the leadership and team management at the enterprises under market relations and social democratization in the country and in accordance with the strategic criteria of teambuilding that contributes to enterprises’ competitive performance.

Research objectives: to study the concepts of leadership and teambuilding; to look into the methodology of leadership and team performance on a number of enterprises in the country; to analyze team types and the history of their development in business organizations; to systematize the strategies of teambuilding improvement in business organizations; to examine the key characteristics of leadership and teambuilding, and finally, to emphasize the importance of organizational culture and organizational changes.

Scholarly contribution and novelty of current research consists in the following: the methodological aspects of leadership and team management are systematized in accordance with the importance of strategic approach towards the teambuilding and analyzed on the enterprises from different business areas in the Republic of Moldova; the notions of a team and a group are clarified; the differences between those notions are identified; the teambuilding process, most fully corresponding to the features of research objective, is described; the notions of team role are presented; the model of interacting roles is explained; the team features and processes, corresponding to the strategies of building a high performing team, are analyzed; the criteria for achievement of effective team interactions are laid down, the organizational culture and organizational behavior are explained as factors that determine the building of high performing teams of the leadership type in conditions of dynamic changes. Key research problem, addressed by the scholarly work, consists in the development of leadership system and high performing teams in conditions of dynamic changes and in defining the forms of team leadership and cross-functional teams at different business-organizations.

Theoretical importance of research: the methodology of building the efficient management system of leadership styles based on teams is explained, the criteria of efficient and high performing teams in business organizations are laid down; the strategies towards the building of high performing teams are defined; the team roles and the ways for their balancing are clarified; the strategies for leadership styles and changes of team interactions based on role balance in a team are suggested; the criteria for team leadership improvement in fostering corporate culture are systematized.

Practical relevance of this research consists in the fact that the main conclusions could be applied for the development of strategies aimed at increasing the competitive advantages of national enterprises at local and international markets as well as at optimizing the management structure, systems, and processes related to the existing changes. Furthermore, the key provisions and conclusions of this thesis could be used during the development of curriculums and courses for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Business Administration.
