The thesis for scientific degree of the Doctor of Arts and Culturology, specialty 653.01 ‒ Musicology, Chisinau, 2019. Thesis structure: introduction, 4 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography references (267 titles), 160 pages of the main text, 6 appendixes including musical examples, tables, poetic texts of compositions, title pages of manuscript cantatas, documents from the archives. Keywords: cantata, chorus, genre, typology, thematics, history of cantata, vocal-symphonic music, incidental cantata, lyrical cantata, epical cantata, heroic-patriotical cantata, composers from the Republic of Moldova. Area of research: History of national music ‒ genre of vocal-symphonic music. The purpose of work consists in the reconstruction of process of the historical development of cantata in the creativity of the Moldavian composers in 1910‒1960s and its periodization on a documentaryhistorical basis, and in the study of typological varieties of the genre. The following objectives were pursue within the research: analysis of the professional context of composer activity in the Republic of Moldova on the basis of documents relating to the composi ng of cantatas, from the archive of the Composers Union of Moldova, and in the light of the general cultural, artistic and ideological condition in the USSR in 1940-1960s; tracing the stages of development of the cantata genre in the Republic of Moldova in the designated time range; definition of characteristic genre features and individual stylistic features of cantatas on the basis of their integral analysis; the elaboration of a model of the genre typology of cantatas; classification of cantatas of Moldovan composers, taking into account their genre typology and content of poetic texts; determination of the place and significance of the compositions in the general picture of composers’ creativity in the Republic of Moldova. Scientific novelty and originality of this dissertation is determined by identification and introduction into scientific circulation of the discovered work in the genre of cantata, as well as many documents with reference to these works from the archive of the Composers Union of Moldova, thus forming an important layer of national musical heritage that becomes accessible to a vast study. Cantata as a largescale genre of vocal-symphonic music, as well as a distinct genre category for the first time is comprehensively studied in the musicology of the Republic of Moldova ; has been implemented the most complete catalogue of works in the genre of cantata; the scientific systematization of the cantatas of Moldovan composers has been carried out. The important scientific problem solved in the research consists in the elaboration of a complex historical and theoretical model of the cantata in the works of composers from the Republic of Moldova according to typological genre features, which serves as the basis for the reasoned historical positioning and artistic valorisation of such works in the national musical culture, thus completing background scientific research on the issues of the 20th century cantatas. Theoretical value of the thesis lies in the formation of a scientific and theoretical base for the further study of the vocal-symphonic works created by the composers from the Republic of Moldova in general and of cantata creativity, in particular, thanks to the offered typology of cantatas that is centered on their genre characteristics, a periodization and the characteristic of stages of genre evolution in Moldovan music of the 1910‒1960s. The work also contributes to the methodology of the music science, demonstrating the profound possibilities of applying one of the methods of general humanities ‒ comparative-historical, allowing to study the concrete facts of the national history of music in close connection with the historical conditions of their origin, and also in the process of qualitative changes at various stages of development, thus overcoming the apparent lack of accumulated knowledge about the subject of research ‒ the cantatas in the creation of the composers from the Republic of Moldova.
