Field of study. Onomastics.
Research aim and objectives: the study and the diachronic analysis of the Romanian anthroponymic system to observe the tendencies of its modification under the influence of tradition and national culture, of sociopolitical factors, socio-psychological factors, and esthetical factors. To achieve this aim, we set the following objectives: to define the terms of onomastics and proper names from grammatical, sociolinguistic and pragmatic point of view; to identify the factors that contribute to the modification of the traditional name inventory, to determine the ways of penetrating / loaning of the new names in Romanian, and the process of their adaptation to the specific of Romanian language; the analysis of the name inventory form the Orhei district from the historical, cultural and linguistic perspectives.
The methodology of research is determined both by the theoretical orientation of the investigations and by the factual analysis of the material, extracted from the registers of birth.. The method of analogy and comparisons were used for analyzing the national and international regulations in onomastics. The methodology of investigations of an applicative nature has accumulated several aspects referring to the case study: analysis of archive documents, the excerpting of first names, observation, factual material synthesis, deduction. The statistical method has helped us to determine the frequency of names and variants.
The scientific novelty and originality resides in the fact that the work presents the theoretical approaches of the concepts that refer to the definition of proper names, taking into account the most important works in the domain of onomastics; the scieticfical originality resides in the analysis of civil status documents (registers of birth), that allowed us to establish the origin, the oldness, the frequency and the popularity of different names, as well as the possibility to observe the evolution of the national inventory of names in different historical periods.
