This study was prospective and randomized. In this study were presented results of screening of 1622 pregnant women, 6,5% from which were hypothyroid, gestational goiter prevalence was 27,2%. From 95 hypothyroid pregnant women 25 had overt hypothyroidism and 70 had subclinical hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism was diagnosed by determination of serum TSH and free thyroxine level (FT4) at initial visit. Also, was determined thyroid autoantibodies (thyroid peroxidase) and was measured by ultrasonography thyroid volume.
All these selected women were randomized into two groups, which received different methods of treatment and one control group, consisting from euthyroid pregnant women. We monitored sequentially thyroid function during pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes in all these three groups.
Hypothyroid pregnant women from experimental group were treated by the combination of potassium iodide (KI), L-thyroxine (LT4) and product for clinical nutrition Berlamin-Modular ( Berlin Chemie).
It was developed and introduced new method of screening, monitoring and treatment of hypothyroidism in pregnancy, which greatly improve pregnancy outcomes and parameters of thyroid function in mother.
The study results help us to develop an efficient algorithm of screening, monitoring and treatment of hypothyroidism in pregnancy.
