The field of study: University Pedagogy.

The purpose of the doctoral research is to develop and validate the experimental Translation competences development methodology in the university context. The objectives of the research include: establishing and identifying theoretical guidelines in linguistics, translation studies, psychological and pedagogical practice relating to translation as a teaching strategy; analysis of the evolution and development of the meaning of the term TC from the point of view of professional training of pre-service translators; description of methodological approaches to developing TC; determination of the levels of the development of students' TC; development and testing of the effectiveness of the TCDM in a university context; formulation of scientific conclusions and methodological recommendations on the formation of students' TC.

The novelty and scientific originality of the research are supported by the analysis of translation as a process of vocational training; a description of the evolution of the concept TC (English) and definition development of the term “translation competence” in a new sense; the identification of competences relevant to the profession of a translator: SC, CC, IPC and SCC; the development of the assessment criteria of students’ TCPV such as: selective perception, decoding, using a translation strategy, responsibility, creativity, professional awareness, idea development, cooperation, contextual adaptation.

The scientific problem solved consists in finding the solution to an important problem in this area: the determination of theoretical and praxiological guidelines on translation as a professional educational activity and the delimitation of some competences related to the profession of a translator: SC, CC, IPC and SCC; the identification and description of the levels of formation of the students’ TC and the analytical presentation of the opinions of university teachers on difficulties in determining the teaching methods to form the students' TC highlighting TCPV obtained experimentally as a result of the introduction of the TCDM in a university context, which contributes to the integration of translators on the job market.

The theoretical significance of the research consists in the identification and descriptive presentation of the theoretical guidelines of a linguistic and psycho-pedagogical nature in relation to translation as a vocational training strategy; disclosure of the meaning of the term “translation competence” from the perspective of educational documents in the field of vocational training of students translators; formulation of scientific conclusions regarding the formation of the students' TC. The practical value of the research reflects the development of university didactics of the English language through: a visual explanation of the most representative methodological approaches to TC development identified in pedagogical literature; the development and implementation of the TCDM; the formulation of scientific conclusions and methodological recommendations regarding the formation of TC at the initial stage of training.

The implementation of the scientific research results was achieved through the dissemination of theoretical conclusions and practical applications as well as implementation of “Translation competences development methodology in university context” at SPU “Ion Creanga” from Chisinau and SU “Alecu Russo” from Balti (Moldova universities) in the period 2014 – 2019.
