Summary

Thesis for the degree of PhD in Art Studies and Culturology. Speciality: 651.01 – Theory and History of Fine Arts. Chisinau, 2020.

Structure of the thesis: introduction, four chapters, conclusions and recommendations, 135 pages of main text, bibliography of 242 items (in 8 languages), 3 annexes.

Field of research: 651.01 – Theory and History of Fine Arts.

Goal of the thesis: presentation of the historical evolution of the children's book illustration in the Republic of Moldova.

Objections of the thesis: determining the development stages of Moldavian children's book art; technical, artistic description, stylistic analysis of children's book illustrations executed by artists from the Republic of Moldova; selection of preferential techniques and stylistic features for each stage; establishing the influence of European artistic tendencies on the creation of the book artists in the republic; identifying the impact of the activities of the UNESCO and IBBY international organizations on the book graphics in the Republic of Moldova. Main scientific problem resolved is a complex examination of the art created by Moldavian book artists in the context of the development of national culture.

Scientific novelty and originality of the thesis: for the first time in Moldavian culturology there is provided the examination of the children’s book art in the Republic of Moldova as part of the national artistic process, and as part of Romanian and Eastern European cultural space; highlighting iconographic and technical aspects like humour origins and computer applicated design.

Theoretical value of the study: valorification of Moldavian children’s book illustration as an authentic phenomenon of the national art; use of contemporan examination methods of Moldavian illustrations of the international importance.

Practical value of the thesis: all the data and conclusions could be used in the scientific work and also in pedagogical activities at the higher educational institutions of the Republic of Moldova: universities’ faculties of graphic arts, design, and librarianship.

Implementation of the scientific results. The results were published in 17 articles with volume of 11,0 c.a. and in the framework of 9 conferences and symposiums.
