Research goal and objectives: The goal of this dissertation is to identify, examine and analyze the lexical, structural, grammatical and semantic features of phraseological units with zoonymic components in English in order to determine the features that reflect the inner and outer world of a person. The objectives of the research are:presentation of the research stage in the field of phraseology as an independent branch of linguistics; analysis of the concepts: phraseological unit and zoonym; identification of ways and sources of occurrence of phraseological units with zoonymic components; examination of lexical, structural, grammatical and semantic particularities of phraseological units with zoonymic components, analysis of phraseological units with zoonymic components that reflect the inner and outer world of man; identification of cognitive models that underlie the formation of phraseological units with zoonymic components.

The scientific novelty and the originality of dissertation. The thesis represents a first attempt to provide a complex and exhaustive structural and pragma-semantic analysis of phraseological units with zoonymic components. Although the object of our investigation is the phraseological units with zoonymic components, in the thesis we also present some reflections on related issues such as: the systemic character of language, the role of society in the process of language evolution, the interconnections between language and culture, the ethnocultural specificity of phraseology, national and cultural stereotypes, the place and value of zoonyms in the English phraseological system.

The scientific results that contributed to the solution of the scientific problem. The results lie in a complex research of phraseological units with zoonymic components in English that allowed to obtain information about the features that reflect the inner and outer world of person, establishing the role of phraseological units with zoonymic components, the place and value of the zoomorphic element in the English phraseological system. The theoretical significance of the investigation lies in the synthesis of the main theories and concepts of different language schools with reference to the field of phraseology and its research object, updating and completing the metalanguage of phraseology research, analysis and description of structural and semantic features of phraseological units with zoonymic components. The consideration of phraseological units with zoonymic component as an autonomous component of the lexical system of the English language highlights the denominative and communicative potential of the language and the ability to metaphorically represent reality. Consequently, in this sense, the relevance of the study is related to the need for analysis and description of general models and those specific to the English-speaking area of zoonyms in the phraseological units of English, providing information about the linguistic and conceptual treasure of speakers.

The applicative value of the investigation. Phraseological units with zoonymic components, due to the specific structural and semantic features they possess, may present certain difficulties in their analysis in the text. This study is able to facilitate their correct textual identification and interpretation. Thus, the results of the investigations can be used in the didactic activity when completing special courses for students of higher education institutions or when teaching courses and seminars on English lexicology, Text analysis, English stylistics. The factual material analyzed and the conclusions presented in this paper could also be applied in lexicographic practice.

Implementation of scientific results. The results of the PhD thesis were included in several articles published in national specialized journals and presented in scientific papers presented at national and international conferences.
