Summary

The structure of the thesis: the thesis consists of Introduction, three chapters, Conclusions and recommendations, list of Bibliography containing 261 titles, 6 supplements, 160 pages of basic text, including 30 figures, 19 tables and 13 geographical maps (on the distribution of Moldovan citizens in Italy). The obtained results are published in the monograph „Second Generations of Migration: the Case of the Republic of Moldova” (Institute for Legal and Political Research, Chisinau, 2017, 343 p.), in the monograph „Al di fuori della legalità: Minori moldavi non accompagnati in Italia” (Aletti Editore, Italia, 2017, 118 p.) and in 29 scientific articles, with a total volume of about 42 sheets of author.

The purpose of the research: complex analysis of the socio-political aspects that refer to the formation of the second generations of Moldovan citizens in Italy.

The objectives of the research: systematization of scientific approaches regarding the second generations; complex analysis of the European Union's policy and Italy's policy on the integration of migrants; analysis of the formation of the communities of Moldovan citizens in Italy and second generations; involvement of migrant associations as a manifestation of civic activism and political participation; highlighting the role of political institutions in the process of collaboration with Moldovan citizens abroad; analysis of national programs and policies for young people in the diaspora; analysis of the normative and institutional framework of the Republic of Moldova on migration and diaspora; highlighting the tendencies regarding the participation of young people from the diaspora in political and electoral processes in the country of origin. Scientific novelty and the originality of the obtained results: consists in the complex, interdisciplinary approach of the process of formation of the second generations; highlighting the political aspects of the migrant integration process, trends regarding political participation of young migrants from the diaspora in the elections in the Republic of Moldova, evolutions of the discourse of political parties and candidates towards migrants and the diaspora.

The scientific results obtained in the researched field: was argued the conceptual framework regarding second generations; were formulated scientific evidences regarding the presence of second generations of Moldovan citizens in Italy; was established an overview of the evolution of the communities of Moldovan citizens in Italy and of associations; which can contribute to the development of national research on international migration and integration process of Moldovan emigrants, in order to create working tools for researchers, central and local authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

The theoretical significance: lies in the synthesis of historiographical landmarks and development of theoretical and methodological approaches on formation of second generations; contribution to determining the specifics of migrant integration and of current socio-political processes related to the diaspora and the participation of emigrated citizens in voting processes organized abroad.

The practical value of the thesis: research results can be a tool for analyzing the process of emigration to Italy of Moldovan citizens, as premises for researching political aspects of migration and formation of second generations in other countries: Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Greece; can be applied to update the National Strategy „Diaspora-2030”, to optimize the policy framework in the field, for the development of university courses, bachelor's or master's theses on migration and diaspora.
