Summary

The present research has centered on the linguistic investigations meant to clear up the phenomenon of affixoidation in the mechanism of Romanian language neologizing. The affixoid represents an intermediate link between the root and the affix. The affoxoids comprise two components: nomination and structural.

We distinguish the sub procedure of formation of the words made up through the affixoidation. The distinctions between the affixoidation and the proper composition are: combination of 2, 3, 4 and even 5 lexical units (autonomous and no autonomous) ensurance of a variable semantic limits; the positional lability of the affixoids (cardiomegaly = megalocardy „exaggerated volume of the heart”); auto combination of the same affixoid: the viscerovisceral reflex (the interaction between organs etc.), formation of some semantic relations specific (synonymy, antonymy, homonymy, paronymy).

The research presents affixoid inventory (1986). Besides the regularity, productivity, repeatability a new driving force that facilitates the process of affixoidation has been identified, that is the discipline variability (intra and inter discipline) which generate semantic flexibility of lexical independent and dependent units. The work comprehends complex analysis (synchronic / diachronic) of some of the most representative affixoids in Rumanian: metr(o)-/-metru, cardio-/-cardie, -card, clin(o)-/-clinal, -clin, -clinic, aeri-/aero-, angio-, distinguishing their semantic valences in dependence with nominative demands of domains of activity. The has been an attempt to explicit the phenomenon of afixoidation in the embryo identifying sources of completion of affixoid inventory: abbreviations, the names of the symbols, the names of the letters, the eponyms, the Greco-Latin words etc. The new lexical creations (made up on the basis of the affixoids) correspond to a universal dimension of the conscious creativity of the scientists and they name the specialized knowledge, increasingly having a use in the specialized language.

The stream of the new words, new meanings that has penetrated the language within an extremely short period of time generates essential changes of the model of the words formation (increase of the composition by means of the affixoidation). The affixoidation is an expression of the abstracting and intelecting tendency of the specialized language.
