The study is dedicated to the appraisal of pathogenetic role of carbohydrate and glycoproteic metabolism indices changes and bone remodeling markers modifications in primary and secondary osteoporosis (OP) during the disease evolution (1,5; 3 and 6 months) and under the influence of the algal biological preparations with different content of zinc – BP-Zn1, BP-Zn2 and BP-R which were used as pathogenic remedies for specific metabolic alterations’ correction.
The experiments have been performed on 78 adult female and male rats. The primary osteoporosis was modelled on white female rats by ovariectomy. The secondary osteoporosis modelling was carried out on male rats by subcutaneous injections of prednisolone in the dose of 10 mg/ kg body weight twice a week.
Results of the study showed that the changes of carbohydrate metabolism enzymes activities in both variants of osteoporosis had a phase character caused by the alternation of bone remodeling - formation and resorption of the bone.
Primary and secondary OP produce changes of the carbohydrates’ combined with non-collagenic proteins content, namely the total hexoses level decrease and an nonessential change of N-acetylneuraminic acid content in the bone tissue, with the exception of late terms of primary osteoporosis (6 months) when N-acetylneuraminic acid concentration increased significantly.
The bone RNA content was reduced in primary and secondary osteoporosis in all the terms of the pathological process evolution. It denotes the biosynthetical processes decreasing in the bone tissue.
The results obtained denote different intensity of remodelling processes depending on stage of the pathological process and form of the disease. In this way a reduction of bone remodelling processes is observed in primary OP in the term of 3 months from osteoporotic process triggering. It is determined by the bone alkaline phosphatase, tartrate resistant acid phosphatase and bone inorganic pyrophosphatase activities decrease.
A diminution of bone formation processes has place in secondary OP during the first 3 months. It is more expressed in the term of 1,5 months from pathological process triggering and is determined by a reduction of bone remodeling markers level. A tendency of these processes restoration was observed in 6 months from beginning of the disease.
Biological preparations of algal origin with high content of organic Zn showed pronounced osteoregenerative properties by effective stimulation of glycolytic enzymes and Krebs cycle dehydrogenases activities, by restoration of total hexoses and RNA content and of transaminases, termolabile alkaline phosphatase and bone inorganic pyrophosphatase activities.
In this way the research performed confirms a prospect of the studied preparations use as some effective osteogenic remedies for correction of metabolic disturbances caused by OP.
