This paper deals with the problem of improving the physical education in schools by independently practising the physical exercise outside the physical education classes included in the compulsory curricula.
According to the data provided by the specialized literature and to the specialists’ point of view, it was shown that two classes of physical education a week for the 5th – 7th grades and one class a week for the 8th from are not enough to ensure the necessary development of the motive skills at the secondary school students, both boys and girls.
The same result was obtained after an experiment where the level of the students physical trening was much below their specific age standard witch was established within the national evaluation system.
During the research we suggested that the secondary school students should practise independently the physical exercise using the „health notebook” under the careful supervision of both their physical education teacher and parents.
Using this method in practising physical education in schools, the students greatly improved their basic physical and functional training as well as their ability in assimilating the motive habits and skills mentioned in the curricula.
As the methodology of organizing independent work at „Physical Education” with the secondary school students is efficient and accessible, it can be of great help to the physical education teachers at the school levels and to the college and university who study „The physical education theory and methodology”.
