This study examined 402 non anemic pregnant women with mean age 23,91 ± 5,23 year and gestational age 10-14 weeks. All pregnant women were divided in two groups: experimental, which administrated iron supplement (subgroup A with 100mg and subgroup B with 200mg of elementary iron) and control - without iron supplementation. Evaluation of iron store status were included hematological and biochemical parameters (serum ferritin, iron and transferring, total and latent iron binding capacity).
The aim of our study was to appreciate prevalence of prelatent and latent iron deficiency during pregnancy for establishing strategy of iron deficiency prophylaxis for pregnant women, oriented for improving maternal health and intrauterine fetal development.
Iron deficiencies were established in each thread no anemic pregnant women with gestational age of 10-14 weeks. The major risk of iron deficiency in the beginning of the pregnancy were had women with two or more delivery, with interval of last delivery not more than 21 months. Monitoring of iron store indices during pregnancy in investigation groups showed negative influence of iron deficiency on evolution of pregnancy, delivery and fetal intrauterine development.
These study results help us to develop an effective schem of profilaxis of iron deficiency during pregnancy, which improve mother iron store status, decrease prevalence and severity of obstetrical and perinatal pathology
