Summary

The dissertation contains the investigation in the development of ethnic and civil identity of Moldovan Ukrainians residing in other ethnic environments. On the basis of the analysis of the acting legislation, the author investigates the dynamics of the internal law-making in the republic, development of the system of state and public institutions providing the interests of national minorities in multiethnic Moldova (the Bureau of Interethnic Relations in the Republic of Moldova, the Institute of Interethnic Relations, Ukrainian NGOs).

The analysis of creative works of poets and writers reflecting Ukrainians’ national character is given in the dissertation. The periodicals in Ukrainian being published in Moldova are considered. The author concludes that there is serious influence of printed media in Ukrainian or about Ukrainians on the ethnic identity consolidation. Also, the attention to the influence to the folk tradition on the consolidation of the values in the modern society is given.

The analysis of the results of the ethno-sociological poll given in the dissertation lets us state that the ethnic identity in the environment of the Moldovan Ukrainian population prevails over civil identity with the regional factor taking a great part in the system of values of the population in transition period.
