Summary

Maximenco Elena, thesis „Scientific argumentation of community based health promotion program for adolescents in Republic of Moldova”, Chisinau, 2010. The thesis includes 126 technically edited pages and comprises 5 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, 224 sources of bibliography, 10 annexes, 30 tables, 21 figures. The obtained results have been published in 11 scientific works.

Study goal: to evaluate the knowledge and health skills of adolescents at community level and to scientifically argument the health promotion program.

Study objectives: 1) to analyze the knowledge and skills of adolescents with regards to nutrition, physical activity and use of spare time, use of tobacco and alcohol, personal hygiene; 2) to evaluate intersectoral cooperation in health promotion issues at the community level; 3) to evaluate the community based „Quit and Win” smoking cessation campaign; 4) to develop the Model health promotion program for adolescents at the community level.

Methodology of scientific study: cross-sectional selective design is applied. 3 studies are conducted in the North, Central and South regions. The target group consists of 553 adolescents; 100 representatives of local public authorities, educational sector and preventive medical service; 224 participants of „Quit and Win” campaign. The qualitative study is conducted in order to perform a SWOT analysis.

Novelty and scientific originality: for the first time in the Republic of Moldova the community based health promotion program for adolescents has been scientifically argued and elaborated through: 1) evaluation of knowledge and health skills of adolescents; 2) evaluation of intersectoral cooperation in health promotion domain at the community level; 3) evaluation of effectiveness of „Quit and Win” campaign. Implementation of the proposed program will contribute to improvement of intersectoral cooperation in health promotion domain at the level of communities, improvement health promotion knowledge and establishment of healthy life skills in adolescents and other community members (teachers, parents, health care professionals, etc.) In the long term, the program will contribute to reduction of risk factors (unhealthy nutrition, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and alcohol consumption).

Theoretical value: The results of scientific research of: 1) knowledge and skills of adolescents with regards to healthy way of life; 2) evaluation of intersectoral cooperation in domain of community based health promotion; 3) evaluation of impact of community based “Quit and Win” campaign on behavior of smokers and 4) Model health promotion program for adolescents at the community level have a theoretical value and may serve as a reference for further studies in the respective domain.

Applicative value: the Model health promotion program for adolescents at the community level could be adjusted to community needs and implemented in the Republic of Moldova.

Implementation of results: the elaborated recommendations and proposals have been utilized in development of „National Program for promotion of healthy lifestyle for years 2007- 2015”; the elements of the Model health promotion program for adolescents at the community level (Healthy School) was tested in the pilot rayon of Cahul; the materials of the thesis are being utilized in the training curricula of the SMPhU „Nicolae Testemitanu”.
