Summary

Radu Turkin, “Morfological and biomechanical usage of surgical suture material - arahnopiafilum”, dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Chisinau, 2010. The dissertation paper consists of: introduction, 6 chapters, conclusions, practical recommendations, bibliography with 224 references, 10 tables, 8 diagrams, 2 schemes, 48 photos. The obtained results have been published in 8 scientific studies. Key words: surgical suture, catgut, arahnopiafilum, biofil Field of study: microscopical anatomy. Research objective: Procurement and preparation of new surgical absorbable biomaterial with improved properties, expansion of facilities and optimisation of sterilisation and conservation processes, studying on the basis of experiment. Research tasks: studying of surgical material structure by means of morphological methods of research after the long period of preservation in 0.5% formalin solution; testing the biomechanical properties of arachnopiaphilum (durability, elasticity, capillarity and swelling characteristics) and their comparison with the catgut suture properties; studying of potential usage of the offered material in surgical practice, development of the material preparation methods and production techniques for these surgical sutures. Scientific novelty: The new source of raw materials for manufacturing of surgical sutures has been offered. The new methods of preparation, preservation and storage methods for surgical suture material have been developed. The structure of arachnopiaphilum after the extended period of conservation has been studied and it has been proved that surgical sutures preserve the high level of elasticity and durability, minimum capillarity and swelling characteristic. Theoretical value: the potential for usage of new biomaterial while stiching the living tissues in experiments on animals has been investigated. As material sources the arachnoid and choroid membranes of animals have been used. Practical value: Economic efficiency and big potential for preparation of raw materials meant for production of surgical threads open wide prospectives for manufacturing of surgical suture material in the industrial conditions. Implementation of scientific results: On the basis of the obtained results the patent: “Surgical Material Manufacturing Method” nr. 5627 dated 27th of June, 2008 has been granted. The results obtained as a part of the study have been applied in educational process and scientific researches at some subdepartments of Medical Institute.
