Summary

The thesis consists of introduction, three chapters, conclusions, references represented by 149 titles, 25 appendixes, 123 pages of the main text, 16 figures, and 22 tables.

The results of the research are published in 16 scientific papers – 9,1 author’s sheets in total.

Field of research: international economic relations.

Purpose of research is to research the development of socio-economic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania for the past two decades and to determine the directions of deepening them and raising their efficiency. This purpose gave rise to the following objectives of the research: to identify the objective prerequisites of the actual socioeconomic Moldo-Romanian cooperation; to carry out a comparative analysis of the economies of the Republic of Moldova and Romania; to investigate the legal aspect of this bilateral cooperation in many fields; to research the forms of multilateral cooperation between these two countries; to investigate the process of Romania’s accession to the EU in order to use this experience for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.

Methodology of the research is based on a number of methods, such as: analysis and synthesis, comparison, induction and deduction, scientific abstractions, graphical and table method etc.

The novelty and scientific originality of research consists in: generalization of the objective prerequisites of the development of actual socio-economic Moldo-Romanian relations; identification of the levels of socioeconomic development of the Republic of Moldova and Romania based on comparative analysis of the economies of these two countries; investigation of the EU (pre)-accession experience of Romania by outlining the procedures and mechanisms of implementation of the main provisions of the Treaty of Accession; systematization and evaluation of the reformed bilateral legal framework (including more than 100 bipartite treaties / agreements signed in the period of 1990-2010); research of the main forms of Moldo-Romanian socio-economic cooperation in the period of 1990-2009/2010; identification of some legal, socioeconomic and other issues in cross-border cooperation; development of some recommendations for hastening the process of accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, and estimation of the possible consequences even in pre-accession period.

Theoretical and applied relevance of the research is confirmed by the main conclusions of the research that could contribute to the intensification and improvement of the long-term socioeconomic relations between these two countries.

Implementation of the results of research: the main results and recommendations made in the thesis have been presented to the central public administration authorities of the Republic of Moldova. Besides, they have been discussed at international conferences held in the Republic of Moldova and Romania in the period of research.
