Field of study: 03.00.16 - Ecology
Aim of the work: Revealing of diversity and peculiarities of the functioning of phytoplankton communities in water ecosystems of Moldova, emphasizing of natural and anthropogenic factors determining their succession, argumentation of phytoplankton use in the system of integrate ecological monitoring.
Objectives: Inventory of taxonomic spectrum, of primary production, of phytoplankton sensitivity to the changes of hydrological and hydrochemical regimes, study of the influence of nutritive substances and microelements on production-destruction processes, evaluation of ecological conditions of the water ecosystems in the basins of Dniester and Prut rivers, based on indicators algae species, creating of the database and elaboration of monitoring system of phytoplankton in water ecosystems.
Methodology of scientific study: Works of Vernadsky V. (1978, 1980, 1983), Odum E. (1975, 1986), Dediu I. (2007), Vadineanu V. (2004), Winberg G. (1968, 1988), Alimov A. (2000), Shalaru V. (1971, 1984), Gutelmacher B. (1986), Bullion V. (1983), Sirenko L. (1988), Nikanorov A. (1999, 2000), Toderash I. (1984, 1991), Zubkov E. (2005, 2009) served as methodological and theoretical scientific basis.
Scientific novelty and originality: Successions of taxonomical and quantitative structure of phytoplankton were established; natural and anthropic factors affecting its development in the various types of water ecosystems were identified. Six species and interspecific algae taxa were identified for the first time in Moldova. The peculiarities of influence of nutritive elements and microelements on the phytoplankton functioning were established. Multiannual evolution of trophic status and water quality of water ecosystems in Republic of Moldova were evaluated. A database was created and elaborated the system for phytoplankton monitoring of the main water ecosystems from hydrographic basins of Dniester and Prut rivers.
Theoretical and applied importance of the work: New data were obtained about diversity, dynamics of quantitative parameters and phytoplankton productivity, influence of a complex of abiotic and biotic factors on phytoplankton, which are conceptual in the development of water ecosystems functionning. The summarized results served as a fundamental basis to develop the recommendations concerning the protection and sustainable use of biological resourses of water ecosystems.
Implementation of scientific results. The results of the study are used by the Ministry of Environment, Regional Ecological Center of Moldova, Moldova State University, University of Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Tiraspol State University.
