The thesis includes introduction, five chapters, general conclusions, recommendations, bibliography with 190 references, 127 pages of the basic text, 24 tables, 46 figures and 10 annexes. The results of the research are presented in 19 scientific publications.
Research area: medicine.
Aim of the study: to assess advantages and possibilities of the fetal ultrasound and fetal Doppler in evaluation of fetal functional condition in IUGR in order to raise the effectiveness of prenatal diagnosis and to improve the obstetrical management.
Objectives: to establish ecographic and Doppler parameters useful in diagnosing intrauterine growth restriction, will improve the management of IUGR cases and will be as predictive factors for diseases progress; to elaborate a ultrasound examination algorhythm for patients diagnosed with fetal IUGR; to reveal a correlation between morphologic changes of the placenta and ultrasound abnormalities in IUGR cases.
Novelty and scientific originality: new efficient ultrasound and Doppler markers for intrauterine growth restriction were revealed and the degree of intrauterine changes of those was established. Results of the Doppler examination and placental biopsy allowed the development of an algorithm for IUGR screening and monitoring of the fetus, also it helps to determine the optimal timing of initiation of birth, both having a major impact on perinatal indicators.
Scientific problem solved in the respective field: the study revealed ultrasound and morphological peculiarities in fetus with IUGR, that contributed to the development of an algorithm for IUGR screening and monitoring of the fetus with IUGR in order to improve obstetrical and neonatal indicators.
The theoretical significance of the study: results of the study represent an methodological support to improve the ultrasound and obstetrical management for better perinatal outcomes.
Applicative value of the study. Based on the study results an algorithm of ultrasound screening and monitoring of the fetus with IUGR was established, in order to improve obstetrical and neonatal indicators.
Scientific results are implemented in the activity of specialists from the Research Institute for Maternal and Child Healthcare and provide a methodological support for the comprehensive management of patients with IUGR, and for training in the field of ecography and obstetrics.
