Summary

The research purpose consists in reflecting the informal institutions’ role in the economic development, and elaborating the concrete recommendations for the improving the economic institutional environment of the Republic of Moldova. With the view of fulfilling this purpose, we had outlined the following research objectives: the analysis of the universal economic thinking with the view of the delimitation the economic content of the informal institutions and their role in the framework of economic development theories; the systematization of the criteria of informal institutions’ efficiency; the research on the impact of informal institutions upon the economic rationality of individuals; the identification of the qualitative and quantitative estimations modalities of informal institutions; the analysis of the static and dynamic interdependence of formal and informal institutions; the assessment of globalization as a factor and a result of the informal institutions’ change; the emphasis of the local informal institutions with negative impact on economic development; the elaboration of an institutional projection model, with application in the Republic of Moldova.

The reason of applying different classical and contemporaneous approaches from the field of economic, social, cultural and political sciences such as scientific abstraction, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, and analogy stems from the research methodology that reflects the interdisciplinarity of the informal institutions’ content. The comparative method has an important role, being specific to institutionalism. The research was accomplished starting from simple to complex, from historical to logical, from general to particular.

The scientific novelty of the investigation consists in repositioning of informal institutions, which became an object of economic analysis; the complicated approach of informal institutions that are integrated in the cognitive decision-making process; the application of multidimensional G. Hofstede’s model to the assessment of the informal institutions’ impact on the economic development; the depicting of institutional convergence and the necessity of promoting the institutional and cultural protectionism with the view of preserving the national integrity; the reasoning of the importance of the informal institutions in various societies that differ not because of their traditionalism, but of their national specificity of the economic development; the explanation of the institutional projection process scheme, and the elaboration of a set of recommendations regarding the lowering the negative impact of informal institutions that slow down the economic development of the Republic of Moldova.

The conclusions and recommendations that result from the given investigation can be used in the importing formal and informal institutions, as well as in the elaboration of the strategies referring to the economic security and the preservation of the national identity of the populations of the Republic of Moldova.
