Summary

Structure of the thesis: annotation, list of abbreviations, introduction, three chapters, conclusions, 292 bibliographical sources, 141 pages of basic text, 7 tables, 10 diagrams, 2 annexes.

Field of study: lexicology, lexicography, word-formation, terminology.

Goals and objectives are to provide an overview of the nouns of action through their synchronic and diachronic presentation, as a result, determining nucleus and perephery class zones through nouns of action semic analysis.

The major scientific problem addressed resides in the complex analysis of these nouns. There have been taken into consideration the following aspects: comparison of the verbal nouns with the verb they derive from; semic analysis of the verbal nouns semantic structure; analysis of their semantic evolution; highlightening of verbal nouns semantic field; delimitation of core and perephery verbal nouns.

The scientific novelty of the paper is determined by the complex analysis of the nouns of action. It is a first attempt to reveal chronological development of the nouns of action in accordance with the most productive suffixes. The nouns of the action are compared to the verbs they have derived from. The semic analysis is used to underline their semantic features that may help in creating a more precise lexicographical definition for core and perephery verbal nouns. Moreover, the most important semes of verbal noun class are described.

The theoretical importance of the paper is determined by the detailed investigations in the analysis of the nouns of action. There are a series of classifications that the paper offers. Nouns of action are described versus action verbs through the development of French language vocabulary offering a new perspective of investigation, going beyond the investigations performed earlier by: psychomechanical presentation of action that may materialize in the noun and in the verb; spotting the etymological development formulas of these nouns which allowed to be more exact in diachronic and synchronic analysis; the different definitions for core and perephery nouns of action.

The practical value. The research results may be used in clarifying some concepts lexicology, throwing light on the importance of derivation and borrowing process in word formation. The results can be used in scientific dictionary making and the creation of new language courses.

Approval of scientific results. The research results were shared at 15 national and international conferences, at the seminars organized at Romanian Language and Romanian Philology and English and Germanic Philology Departments of A. Russo State University of Bălţi.
