Thesis structure: introduction, 4 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography of 191 titles, 146 pages of the main text, 66 figures, 21 charts. Obtained results have been published in 24 scientific works.
Domain of research: 321.17. Ophthalmology.
Aim: Evaluation of modern methods of diagnosis used in assessment of the patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) in order to determine the therapeutic efficacy of the principal methods of treatment, oriented to the minimal loose of the vision functions.
Objectives of research: To identify the diagnostic methods able to find out the incipient morphologicall changes associated to the beginning of the ARMD. To identify the patients with the major risk of dry ARMD conversion into the wet ARMD. To propose reliable therapeutic solutions obtained from monitoring of the patients through all the stages of the disease. Novelty and originality of research: There were evaluated the modern diagnostic methods used in patients with ARMD. It has been proposed to incorporate the Anti-VEGF drug in the management of pre neovascular stage of ARMD, the atrophic form. It was appreciated the need of tomographic investigation and the treatment of all patients with atrophic form of ARMD in order to prevent its advancement in the exudative form and loss of visual function.
Theoretic significance: It was developed the optimal diagnostic and treatment algorythm for patients with both forms of ARMD.
Scientific problem addressed in thesis: The Scientific problem solved consisted in the application of the most sensitive diagnostic methods in order to assess early changes in macular retina and the application of specific pathogenetic treatment oriented according the stage and the clinical form of ARMD pathology.
Applied value: It has been described tomografically the changes of retina specific for each stage of ARMD evolution, described angiographically the neovascular membranes, developed practical recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of ARMD depending on the clinical form.
Implementation of scientific results: The data have been implemented into the routine diagnostic and treatment activity of Ophthalmology departments from municipal Hospital ,,Sfânta Treime”, Central Clinical Hospital ,, Railways”.
