Summary
The aim of the thesis is to outline the concept of intertextuality and to elucidate the
scenarios of manifestation of intertextuality in the text of the editorial in Romanian, English and
French, both from the point of view of the textual production and of the reception and the
interpretation of the text by integrating the results of the studies in text theory, discourse analysis,
pragmatics and multicultural communication.
The objectives of the present research paper are:
- drawing up a theoretical and methodological framework favourable to the elaboration of a
- pragmatic study of the texts of the written (editorial) articles;
- argumentation of the intertextual dimension of the editorials, ascertaining whether the columnist
- resorts to intertextuality as a meaning-generating strategy;
- establishing the functioning mechanisms and the manifestation peculiarities of intertextuality in
- the editorials;
- generating a typology of intertextual forms used in the editorial (based on the corpus analysis);
- description of the intertextuality functions in the editorial (based on the corpus analysis);
- analysis of the intertextual techniques that contribute to the update of the discursive approach in
- the editorial text within the referential framework;
- analysis of the intertextual message in the context of globalization in editorials with distinct
- editorial ideologies and policies;
- investigation of how the same conflict and the same participants are represented in editorials
published in Romanian, English and French.
The scientific novelty and the originality of the work resides in the transposition of the
concept of intertextuality, taken from the analysis of the literary text, in the field of the interpretation
of Romanian, English and French editorial articles. The editorialist and author of a literary text have
in common the intent to create a text intended for a wide audience, based on various communicative
intentions. The theoretical model of the intertextuality with which we operate is based on the
interaction: text/extratext – editorialist – text1 – lecturer, following M. Riffaterre – U. Eco – J. Culler
– L. Jenny, a model completed by our reflections, generating a typology of forms of intertextuality
(horizontal, vertical, mixed).
The theoretical and practical value is argued by the fact that the connections established by
the editorialist condition the pivotal role of intertextuality in the constitution of the referential
relations in the discursive universe of the editorial text. Due to the complex way of realizing the
intertextuality, which allows the encoding of the information through the intertwining of the previous
and the present texts, taking place in the linguistic expression through a comprehensive inventory of
linguistic and discursive means, the intertextual mechanism is postulated as an efficient concept of
editorial analysis and means of the author-reader communication representative for the intertextual
and the intercultural dialogue, which requires a complex interpretative process.
The implementation of research results. The results of the thesis were implemented in
drawing up the scientific communications presented at international and national conferences and
during the lectures/seminars of Text/Discourse Interpretation at the Faculty of Foreign Languages
and Literatures, MSU.
