Summary

Thesis structure: introduction, four chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, 283 bibliography sources and 124 annexes. The thesis has 150 pages of basic text, 23 figures and 22 tables.

Thesis related publications. The research results are reflected in 17 scientific publications.

The aim of the research: assessing the evolution and impact of the road network on the natural and sociohuman components of the geographical landscape, through GIS, both in temporal and territorial dynamics, for the sustainable development of the environment, the economy and population.

The research objectives: highlighting the conditions and particularities of the road network evolution in the Republic of Moldova, in terms of its impact on the geographical landscape and determining the role of transport in the economic consolidation of the country, also as an integral element of the geographical landscape; creation of the spatial database of the road network of the Republic of Moldova; spatial analysis of the current state of the indicators that determine the level of development of the Republic of Moldova road network, at the level of administrativeterritorial units, in the context of environmental impact, as well as the degree of accessibility of the population to various social services; elaboration of practical recommendations for the optimization and sustainable development of the transport infrastructure from a geographical perspective, in order to develop sustainably the geographical landscape.

The scientific novelty and originality of the research: the evolution of the road network in the current space of the Republic of Moldova was restored, in terms of its impact on the geographic landscape, both on natural and socio-human components by calculating, for the first time, the indices that characterize the road network structure and accessibility of population to social services. A series of road network maps have been developed, which can serve as a support for the policies development of the road network optimization at national, regional and local levels, both in terms of environmental policies and economic development. For the first time, the geoinformational studies on transport accessibility were realized and the structural indicators of the road network for the Republic of Moldova were calculated.

The scientific problem solved by the research: scientific substantiation of the road network evolution in the Republic of Moldova and of the population accessibility as a determining criterion in establishing the profitability of the use of road transport infrastructure and its economic and environmental importances, which led to geoinformational modeling of the road network and its impact on the natural and socio-human components of the geographical landscape, which allowed the determination of territorial disparities regarding the indicators that characterize the road network and the impact of roads on the geographical landscape.

The theoretical significance of the research: identification and descriptive presentation of the theoretical landmarks regarding the geography of transports; establishing the evolution of the road network on the current territory of the Republic of Moldova until now; elucidating the impact of the road network on the natural and socio-human components of the geographical landscape.

The applied value of the research: the research results will be able to be used in the elaboration of strategies for the road transport system development. The study may be useful for the future National Spatial Planning in the context of demographic and socio-economic transformations in the Republic of Moldova; for districts, RDA (Regional Development Agencies), state institutions in the field of design and spatial planning for the implementation of social projects and the State Road Agency; National Institute for Economic Research; Institute of Ecology and Geography.

The implementation of the scientific results: institutional project 15.817.06.12A “Study of cultural landscapes on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in the context of sustainable development” (2014-2019); State Program (2020-2023) "Changes and spatio-temporal trends of environmental components of the Bâc river basin under anthropogenic impact" (no. 20.80009.7007.24), but also in the courses of "Human Geography of the Republic of Moldova" , taught at the Geography Faculty of the Tiraspol State University. The results of the study were implemented within the State Roads Agency and the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure through the elaboration of cartographic materials regarding the road network
