Summary

The present paper carries out a theoretical and analytical research of the globalization process influence on the national security of the Republic of Moldova. The research is conducted through an analysis of both internal and external factors, the dynamic balance of which sets up the essential contents of any security policy. Given that, the paper highlights the solid linkage of ensuring national security with the social-political system and economic evolutions of each state separately, such as, for instance, transition of the Republic of Moldova and other ex-socialists countries under the conditions of globalization.

The first chapter of the paper includes a synthesis of the main definitions, concepts, theories and dimensions of the national security and globalization process, hence setting up the theoretical and methodological basis of the paper. Therefore, the author has come to the conclusion that among the main factors having led to transformation of national security analysis and practice are the decline in national sovereignty, unforeseeable increase in the density of interactions at transnational level as well as conflict explosion on international arena where globalization is deepening all challenges to security, which, in turn, require regional and even global cooperation and coordination mechanisms.

The second chapter covers an analysis of the main domestic and foreign risks and threats to national security at both internal and external levels. At internal level, security of the Republic of Moldova is determined by such factors as socio-economic development and political processes. External context represents a force conditioning the security policies of the Republic of Moldova, whereas the implications of the globalization process over the Republic of Moldova’s national security are assessed from the perspective of a “small state”.

Taking into account the present-day risks and threats to the national security of the Republic of Moldova under the conditions of the globalization process, the last chapter emphasizes the need to integrate security actions and solutions which can be carried out simultaneously at internal and external levels, and namely: enhancement of political and legal framework of the security system, strengthening of the country’s social-economic system and determining its place on the regional level.
