The dissertation deals with a subject less studied: mass media and community development from a political perspective. In accordance with the objectives set out the research is structured in three chapters.
In the first chapter some theoretical and methodological aspects of community development, the objectives and characteristics of this process, the main parts, manifestations and components are examined. The propitious context for community development, the way of producing community interventions and the possibility of taking some existing best experiences are also researched, the mass media potential being unleashed in order to promote the innovative aspects of the socio-political processes.
The problem of capitalizing community development resources is dealt in the second chapter. Participative democracy, active citizenship, social capital is considered primary for the socio-political evolution in the Republic of Moldova. The participative aspect of the community development is dealt with according to the participative stimuli – technical assistance, self-help, community leadership, conflict and consensus, partnerships, participative strategic planning.
The third chapter focuses on the role of the media factor in the process of community development. Taking into consideration the objective realities in the Republic of Moldova, community journalism potential is identified and its development perspectives are marked.
