Summary

The structure of the thesis. The thesis consists of introduction, five chapters, conclusions and recommendations, bibliography including 253 items, 264 pages of the body text, 70 tables, 26 figures, 28 appendices. The received results have been published in 45 scientific and methodical works, of which 37 were published in 2002 – 2010.

Field of study covers theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of agricultural production potential, management of the increase in economic efficiency of the production potential of the agricultural enterprises of Republic Moldova.

Research objectives are to evaluate the agricultural production potential in current economic conditions, to estimate the economic efficiency of the production potential of Moldova’s agricultural enterprises, to motivate priorities in economic policy of the state directed at the support of agricultural producers, to outline methods and ways of estimating the potential’s level and the efficiency of its use.

The main goal of the thesis is the research into and development of theoretical and methodological basis of the use of the production potential of agriculture, evaluation of its present state and development and working out recommendations on the increase of economic efficiency of production potential in the agricultural sector on the whole. Methodology of scientific research includes method of comparison, monographic analysis, method of grouping, method of multifactor linear correlation, regressive method, parameter optimization method, balanced scorecard (BSC), economic-mathematical modeling, etc.

Scientific novelty and originality consists in theoretical approach to the concept of the category “production potential” of agriculture, elaboration of the scheme of production potential and identification of its main elements, elaboration of the schemes of extended sector and territorial structures of the production potential and their grounding, elaboration and proposal for use of the system of indicators for assessing economic efficiency of production potential in agriculture, development and proposal of a methodology for assessing the production potential by three methods, suggesting the use of economic-mathematical modeling for optimization of production potential in agricultural sector, development of the model for managing agricultural production based on optimal allocation of subsidies and compensations and suggestions concerning the implementation thereof, etc.

Theoretical significance and implementation of the scientific results are based on the directions of economic improvement in productive potential of the agricultural sector, perfection of methods for assessment of its economic efficiency, as well as on recommendations included in the thesis and referring to the production potential of agricultural enterprises of Republic Moldova. The recommendations that are put forward in the thesis have already been partially used for evaluation of economic efficiency of production potential, in the courses on economics in higher educational institutions and can be used for research work in specialized scientific research institutions.
