Summary

The structure of thesis:introduction, list of abbreviations, 3 chapters, conclusions and recommendations, 149 pages of text, bibliography composed of 211 titles, 24 attachments, 34 tables, 53 figures out of which 16 are maps.

The number of publications on the topic sentence: 13, out of which 12 scientific and 1 methodical didactic publications.

Field of study: political, social and economic geography.

Purpose and objectives of the paper: consists in the analysis of the natural movement of population and to reveal the territorial peculiarities of the demographic transition in the Republic of Moldova.

The methodology of scientific research: to complete the thesis there were used mostly the following methods: historical, mathematical-statistical, comparative, analytical, cartographic.

Scientific novelty: consists in presetting a synthesis on demographic transition; revealing the evolution of some demographic phenomena as well as the decrease of birth rate, increase of death rate, ageing of population and the increase of morbidity and death rate caused by some endogenous diseases.

The important scientific problem settled in the respective field of research: consists n bringing some arguments to show that the tendencies to change the demographic behavior are not associated only with the socio-economic changes that have occurred lately, but the above-mentioned tendencies are a consequence of the demographic transitions.

Theoretical significance: reveals an integrative approach of the demographic transitions process through the assessment of demographic changes in the Republic of Moldova. Also, a considerable theoretical and practical material was collected that further on would be useful for the complex and contemporary development of such sciences as social geography, demography and geography of population.

Applied value of the thesis: the changes in the reproduction behavior of population during the last century are analyzed. The data and the information collected can be used as scientific and informational support for the further researches, taking into account the fact that at present, we can speak about more transitions that could be and analyzed separately.

Implementation of scientific results: the results were used for the project development: “The impact of population migration on the demographic situation in the Republic of Moldova” (2005) and “The demographic situation in the Republic of Moldova, the usage of labor force and the migration of population in the rural localities from the Republic of Moldova” (2009).
