Summary

The aim of our paper is to emphasize several aspects of the role that the poet and statesman Alphonse de Lamartine had in the socio-cultural and literary development of Romanian writing as well as Lamartine's echoes in the Romanian poetry of the 19th century. The starting point of the analysis consisted in the preliminary study of document books certifying the thinking trend of the mentioned century, the mentality and the expectation horizon of the Romanian readers and the status of the 19th century Romanian culture.

Lamartine's literary system, converted into a sui generis Romanticism model, as well as the significant elements of his reception in Romanian literature are the objective of the research proper. Due to the nature of literary communication theorized by means of doxology and mezology concepts, the paper analyses the contact of Romanian people with Lamartine's work, from translations to functionally approaching the text by highlighting the productive moments as related to the passive ones. Such an approach entails tracing the first signs of reception at the level of.translations, synthesizing the Lamartinian experience and the Lamartinian trend by means of original works assimilation and last but not least, the elaboration of a general frame of the esthetic reception process. Lamartine's success in our literature was related to the particular conditions of the Romanian Romanticism's development, which was not born as a violent reaction against Classicism. As the two literary attitudes co-existed in Lamartine's work too, this fact became the base of his reception by Romanian poets.

The paper contains the analysis of several translations, the variants of some Romanian poets'several poems, more detailed case studies, tracking by means of parallelisms some Romanian writers' Lamartinianism, as well as the integration of Lamartinian elements in original Romanian writings (Asachi, Heliade Radulescu, Alexandrescu, Bolintineanu, etc.). The theoretical and methodological bases of the analysis were born by referring to several reception theoreticians' works, historians and literary critics of the 19th century. We took into consideration the contributions to the literary phenomenon research of P. Cornea, A. Marino, 1 Mavrodin, G. Calinescu, Al. Pirn, E. Simion, D. Popovici, D. Grigorescu, P. Eliade, S. Cioculescu, s.a.

The study of the Lamartinian moment in the Romanian literary domain clarifies aspects related to the nature of direct and indirect relations to an European literary milestone without the loss of Romanian literature authentic characteristics integrated somehow later in the universal circuit. The national personality manifested under these circumstances through a dual movement of attraction and repelling, the dimensions of this phenomenon are relevant for the profile of the original characteristics of Romanian literature during an era when it was starting to shape up its development lines.
