Summary

Structure of Dissertation. The present research includes annotations in Romanian, English and Russian; the list of abbreviations; Introduction; three chapters; General Conclusions and Recommendations; Bibliography (238 sources); 5 figures; 12 appendices. The main text contains of 140 pages. The obtained results have been published in 18 scientific articles.

Field of study. Germanistics, Grammar, Lexicology and lexicography.

Research aim and objectives: to highlight the diversity of lexical means expressing semantic categories of quantative semantic aspectuality (durative, semelfactive, iterative, intensive) and of qualitative aspectuality (the action phase of the verb and the resultative semantic category) in modern German. To achieve this aim, we set the following objectives: to outline the peculiarities of the basic notions of aspectuality of the German language; to determine the dominant semantic indicators of the semantic categories of quantitative and qualitative aspectuality of the German language; to analyze the semantic potential of the synthetic and analytic lexical indicators expressing semantic aspectuality, to develop models of appropriate functional-semantic fields.

The scientific novelty and originality of the work consists in introducing an innovative approach in the study and systematization of the multitude of lexical means expressing the semantic categories of quantitative and qualitative aspectuality, taking into account their interaction within the structure of utterances in the German language. The scientific originality resides in devising functional-semantic fields based on common dominant semantic indicators of the quantitative and qualitative aspectuality found in the German language.

The solved important scientific problem: identification of the dominant semantic indicators of the semantic categories of quantitative and qualitative aspectuality and establishing the aspectual potential of the lexical means able to express them, has led to a systematization and a hierarchy of these lexical indicators in appropriate functional-semantic fields.

The theoretical value of the work consists in explaining important theoretical issues concerning the functioning of the semantic categories of quantitative and qualitative aspectuality and in identifying common dominant semantic indicators typical of the German language; in outlining the synthetic and analytic lexical indicators expressing semantic aspectuality, and in establishing the peculiarities of their interaction with the verb, which carries the basic aspectual meaning.

The applied value of the research. The results of the research will certainly contribute to expanding the knowledge about the status and the peculiarities of the functional and semantic category of aspectuality in the German language, to improving theoretical courses, to elaborating methodological guidelines for the practical courses, to enhancing the quality of learning German; to writing graduation papers and MA theses.

Implementation of the scientific results. The elaborated strategies have enabled us to determine and characterize all the lexical indicators expressing aspectuality in the German language. The obtained results will be used in carrying out general and linguistic research, for general and comparative aspectuality and they will also serve as a foundation for further scientific investigations in this domain.
