Summary

The purpose of the paper: to determine the principles of journalistic mediation and of the encouragement of the social dialogue, to analyze the media strategies and tactics in order to address conflict situations and get across the press's potential in mediating the social dialogue.

Objectives of the paper: to determine the specifics of the conceptual-theoretical approach of the social dialogue phenomenon, related to media realities and analysis of principles, of social dialogue journalistic mediation, to study the media‟s practices of mass socialization, to reveal the particularities of organizing and maintaining the social dialogue through media.

The important scientific problem solved makes reference to a complex approach of the process of journalistic mediation of social problems / conflicts, including the identification of the media potential in the mediation and encouragement of the social dialogue, the determination of the quality of the journalistic mediation act and the efficiency of the media factor in terms of its capacity to reflect the processes of society‟s democratization. The solved scientific problem was approached in terms of the principles and strategies of journalism to reflect social problems and conflicts, media implications in mediation, which led to highlighting the potential of the press in promoting, maintaining and stimulating social dialogue.

Scientific novelty and originality consists in elucidating the media‟s potential of mediating conflict situations and encouraging the social dialogue, as well as in identifying the impact of media activity in the processes of society‟s democratization.

The new important results for science and practice are as follows: determination of social dialogue auspicious conditions and the media‟s implication in the processes of society‟s democratization; emphasizing the principles of journalistic mediation; analyzing the strategies and tactics of mediating the conflict situations through media, elucidating the media‟s potential of the social dialogue mediation.

The theoretical significance of the thesis lies in: the creation of a theoretical framework of journalism in terms of its capability for mediating the social dialogue, the media‟s functionality and its role in encouraging the social dialogue; developing patterns for addressing the social reality based on various operational strategies and practices.

The applicative value of the paper is related to the research results regarding the media‟s potential of mediating the social dialogue, the factual information and the statistical data, the empirical materials of the study, which can serve as a methodological basis for elaborating the editorial policies of periodicals, radio TV stations and news agencies.

Implementation of scientific results: the scientific results were implemented by both publishing 11 articles and studies and contributions to national and international conferences.
